Kathy Bjorseth

Kathy Bjorseth is a Certified Advanced Piano and Theory Specialist of the Royal Conservatory of Music and has been a member of the B.C. Registered Music Teachers’ Association for over 30 years. In 1976, she joined the piano faculty at the Langley Community Music School, where she taught until 2021. At LCMS, she has held the position of Resident Accompanist, coached several prize-winning piano trios, and taught workshops on duet playing, keyboard harmony and harpsichord technique. On several occasions, she and her students have traveled to New York City to perform in Carnegie Hall, as finalists in the American Protege Competition.
She has been a strong advocate in the Lower Mainland for the performance of Canadian music, and together with Ian Hampton, started the LCMS Contemporary Showcase festival in 2001. She has been a voting member of the Canadian Music Centre since 2009.
As an accompanist, she is known as a sympathetic and knowledgeable coach and collaborator, and helps students to achieve artistry and confidence in their performances. She has specialized in the solo voice, violin and cello repertoire, but has worked with all instruments, as well as choir. She has played for numerous festivals and master classes at the Langley Community Music School and the Vancouver Academy of Music, where she played for the weekly violin master class of Dr. Lise Elson and for the Aldo Parisot cello workshops, as well as many master classes for the Vancouver Cello Club. She has been on the faculty of Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Langley as the accompanist for the brass department from 2011-2016.
As a ballet/modern dance accompanist, she played for visiting dance companies and for master classes of the Vancouver Ballet Society, as well as being on faculty of the dance departments at the Banff Centre and Simon Fraser University. She was company pianist for Ballet B.C. from 1989-93.
Kathy Bjorseth was born in Chicago, and received her B.Mus. at the U. of Manitoba. After moving to Vancouver in 1975, she worked as a studio accompanist for voice and ballet, and toured B.C. and Alberta under the auspices of Moods of Man Concerts with various ensembles.
