Cheryl Dennett is an experienced teacher and performer born and raised in the Greater Vancouver Regional District. She is a professional percussionist, vocalist, pianist, conductor, composer and arranger. She was awarded a wide variety of scholarships throughout her post-secondary education where she studied voice performance at Douglas College in New Westminster, and percussion performance at The University of British Columbia. She holds a bachelors of music from UBC in percussion performance.
Cheryl spends most of her time working as a private music teacher, creating and implementing flexible curriculum for children and adults of varying ages and competency levels. Cheryl also directs a children's choir and youth band in Surrey, and delights in regularly composing and arranging for the two ensembles.
Some highlights as a performer include playing with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, with members of Vancouver's Fringe Percussion ensemble, with the Edmonton based group rEvolve, and with her own band.
Cheryl was thrilled when she discovered the Colourstrings Music and Movement Program for children. She finds Colourstrings to be an innovative program that is a wonderful synthesis of her passions in music and working with children. She only wishes she had the opportunity to participate in such a creative and comprehensive program when she was a child!
