Classically-trained violinist Cicely Nelson has completed extensive teacher training and certification in the Suzuki Method at the School for Strings in New York City, where she studied under master teacher trainers Ekaterina Gerson, Allen Lieb, Louise Behrend, and Sasha Yudkovsky, and taught in the Start-Up Program, a program for disadvantaged children.
Before joining the faculty at the Vancouver Academy of Music in 2012, she served on the faculty at the Music Center of the Northwest in Seattle for two years. While obtaining her Bachelor's Degree from Columbia University, she studied violin at Mannes College under Shirley Givens and Joey Corpus. She completed her Master’s of Music Degree in violin performance at the University of British Columbia under David Gillham in May of 2013, where she is presently pursuing a second Master's degree in viola performance.
An avid performer and chamber musician, she has participated in the Ameropa (Czech Republic), Domaine Forget (Québec), and Bowdoin Music Festivals (Maine). She is an active member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and participates in continued education in Suzuki Pedagogy. Both her teaching and performing are informed by her lifelong background in movement (performance and therapy).
