Peder MacLellan is principal tuba with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for the 2011-2012 season. Peder is currently on faculty at UBC where he teaches tuba, bass trombone and coaches chamber ensembles. In the past Peder has been principal tuba with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Bay Street Brassworks and was the Associate Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium and Indiana University. Before moving to Vancouver Peder maintained a successful career as a freelance musician in the U.S. Peder was an active studio musician in Indianapolis and can be heard on recordings for Hal Leonard, Plank Road Publishing and Disney on Ice to name a few. Peder is versed in all styles and genres of music.
Teaching has always been a passion of Peder’s. He currently holds a large studio of low brass students. Peder has worked with students of all ages and in many different settings. Peder has given master classes and clinics in many school districts including Monroe County Community Schools, in Bloomington Indiana, and St. James, Seven Oaks, Fort Gary, and Transcona schools in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. Peder has also maintained a long term private studio in each of those school districts.
Peder has performed throughout Canada and the United States in various chamber music settings, symphony orchestras, wind ensembles, big bands and small group jazz ensembles. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, he earned his Bachelors degree in Music Performance from The University of Manitoba. Peder holds a Masters Degree from Indiana University Bloomington and is in the process of completing a Doctorate.
