NEW! Vocal Jazz Ensemble

In this energetic ensemble of up to 16 members, each singer will work with an individual microphone, learning vocal technique, jazz style and mic technique in arrangements of important jazz vocal styles. This ensemble will also focus on developing solo singing skills, improvisation and jazz musical vocabulary.

Term 1: The Great American Songbook

The most important American popular songs of the 20th century, including Broadway, musical theatre, and Hollywood musical film, are explored through arrangements of tunes from composers such as Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern and Henry Mancini.

Term 2: The Music of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross
Jan 12, 19, 26 / Feb 2, 16, 23 / Mar 2, 2015 *7-week course
Focusing on arrangements of pieces by the vocal trio of Dave Lambert, Annie Ross and Jon Hendricks, who were known for their swinging style, great improvisation, big-band influence and instrumental vocal style.

Term 3: The Jazz Standards
Apr 13, 20, 27 / May 4, 11, 25 / Jun 8, 15, 2015
Includes some of the most well-known and influential jazz standards by the ‘greats’ Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and more.

Recommended for: 16yrs to adult. Must be able to read music and match and sustain pitch. Previous choral experience recommended
Dates and Times: Mondays, 7.00–8.30pm. 8 classes per term (see dates above)
Fee: For students taking private VSOSoM lesson or enrolling for all 3 terms: $230 per term.
Stand-alone: $285 per term
