Theory Courses

One-to-One or Semi-Private (2 students) Theory & Music History Lessons

One-to-one or semi-private lessons are best suited for students wanting to work in an accelerated manner, or whose schedule does not allow them to attend a group class.

Specialized lessons and semi-private lessons are available in all RCM exam subjects, including:

  • Basic, Intermediate & Advanced Harmony
  • Counterpoint
  • Analysis
  • Music History 1, 2 & 3

RCM Basic Rudiments

Dates & Times: Fall: (12 weeks) Sept 22–Dec 15, Saturdays, 11:00am. No class on Oct 13
Class Duration: 90 minutes

Fast-Track to Advanced Rudiments

This full-year (27 weeks) course is designed for older students who are in advanced levels of their RCM conservatory studies (roughly grade 7+ (students need advanced rudiments for grade 7)) and have not yet covered any theory. There is no need for students to complete the two lower grade levels first (Basic, Intermediate) and they can successfully cover all the material for Advanced Rudiments in just 27 classes.

Sept 22–Dec 15, Saturdays, 10:00am AND Jan 12–May 4, Saturdays, 10:00am
No classes on Oct 13, Mar 23 or Mar 30

Advanced Placement Music Theory — College Prep

AP Music Theory is designed for those seeking six university credits in advance of undertaking post-secondary studies. Age is not important but it is important to have knowledge of Rudiments and Harmony (up to Basic level). The course covers not only music theory, but important musicianship skills such as sightsinging, melodic and harmonic dictations, along with critical score reading skills.
