CBC music producer Denise Ball has spent over two decades working with some of the world’s finest musicians. Recipient of the 2008 Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award for Music, she produced the award-winning recording of concerti by Barber, Korngold and Walton featuring violinist James Ehnes and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for CBC Records – a recording that captured Grammy, Juno and Western Canadian Music Awards.
Among others, she produced the Juno-nominated recording of Mozart Piano Concerti with Jon Kimura, James and Ian Parker with the CBC Radio Orchestra conducted by Mario Bernardi. Her recording of Jeffrey Ryan’s Fugitive Colours with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestras was also a Juno nominee in 2011. Since 2008 Ball has been Executive Producer of CBC Radio Two’s live classical music programs Saturday Afternoon at the Opera and In Concert. Ball recently produced the Signature Series, an imaginative exploration of key signatures, which received the prestigious Prix Italia for the Best Work about Music presented on international radio in 2013. And her program In Concert was one of the finalists for Best Classical Music Show at the 2013 New York Festivals.
She continues to record chamber music, orchestral programs and operas for broadcast on CBC Radio 2 and has worked closely with concert presenters across the country to bring outstanding performances to a national audience.
