Winter Vocal Workshops

For singers wanting to refine their technique and performance skills, this series of vocal workshops with some of Vancouver's most respected artists and pedagogues examines different aspects of the craft and allows participants to receive expert coaching in a masterclass setting.

Enroll in individual workshops, or sign up for all three to receive a special discounted rate.

Recommended for:
Adults and High-school age students. No musical
experience required
Adults and age 16+ who take regular singing lessons
Dates and Times: 1- and 2-week workshops during the Winter term.

Workshop 1: Singing in French Jan 22, 2018
Monday, 7-9pm
Instructor: Elizabeth Brodovitch Fee: $40

Refine the art of singing in French with this lecture / demonstration workshop. Participants will look at the main differences between French and English pronunciation, practice special warm-up techniques, and get the chance to discuss and receive coaching in masterclass-style performances.

 

Workshop 2: Acting for Singers -
Finding Your Action in the Music

Instructor: Sarah Pelzer  Fee: $70

Learn to analyze a musical piece for its dramatic structure, and find your character through simple gestures. The first class studies the basics of dramatic language and how to apply it to music to embody a story. The second week in a masterclass format will delve into analyzing text for music and dramatic action. Participants will experiment with intention, gesture and character and receive active feedback. 

Workshop 3: Performing With Your Full Voice - Efficiency in Singing With the Alexander Technique Feb 26 - Mar 5
Mondays, 7-9pm
Instructor: Gabriella Minnes Brandes Fee: $70

This workshop introduces the principles of Alexander Technique through lecture, demonstration and masterclass. With a focus on awareness, choice, and efficiency, the Alexander Technique offers performers in all genres the tools to be present and available as they work their craft and art.   In a hands-on workshop and masterclass format, each performer receives detailed feedback of their vocal and psycho-physical habits and receives support and tools to improve their performance.
