Honours Brass Ensemble

A new opportunity for brass players, the ensemble of 16 will meet weekly for 6 weeks to work under the direction of Larry Knopp, Principal Trumpet of the VSO, and former visiting instructor of trumpet at the Eastman School of Music and the Northwestern University School of Music, with additional coaching and masterclasses by members of the VSOSoM faculty and Maestro Bramwell Tovey, Music Director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Members selected will work on signature brass ensemble repertoire in preparation for a performance in the Orpheum Theatre as part of the VSO School of Music’s Annual Showcase Concert on Sunday, June 18, 2017. In addition to their own repertoire, the VSOSoM  Honours Brass Ensemble will also join the annual 200+ piece Ode to Joy Orchestra, which performs a specially-arranged version of Beethoven’s  Ode to Joy, from the 9th Symphony, under the direction of  Bramwell Tovey, to conclude the concert.

Eligibility: Open to players of all ages (youth and adults) of the following instruments: trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, euphonium. If a youth applicant, private teacher or band director must agree to and approve application to the ensemble.
Dates and Times: Tuesdays, 6.30-8.30pm. 6-week course.
Rehearsals: May 9 - June 13, 2017
Performance: Sunday, June 18, 2017, 3pm at the Orpheum. 
Fee: Application fee: $20
Participation fee: $150
Bursaries for students in financial need are available to cover the participation fee cost. If selected, the application fee will be applied towards the participation fee.
