Calidore String Quartet
International Young Artists Festival Guests
The Calidore String Quartet, formed in 2010 at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, is celebrated for its extraordinary cohesion and expressive depth, described by The Washington Post as “four more individual musicians are unimaginable, yet these speak, breathe, think and feel as one.” The Quartet’s repertoire spans Beethoven and Mendelssohn to contemporary works by Caroline Shaw, Jörg Widmann, and Mark-Anthony Turnage, and they are equally committed to premiering new music. The ensemble has performed at major venues and festivals worldwide, including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Berlin Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the BBC Proms, collaborating with artists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Joshua Bell, Marc-André Hamelin, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and David Finckel.
They have released acclaimed recordings of the Beethoven string quartets and contemporary repertoire on Signum Records. Prizewinners at major competitions including ARD Munich, Fischoff, Coleman, Hamburg, and the inaugural M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition, the Calidore Quartet has received the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, Avery Fisher Career Grant, and Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award. They are currently Distinguished String Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Delaware and have held residencies at the University of Toronto, University of Michigan, and Stony Brook University, studying with mentors such as the Emerson String Quartet, Quatuor Ébène, David Finckel, and Günter Pichler.
