Helen Leung

Artist in Residence

Helen (Hei Lam) Leung is a Hong Kong-born Canadian choral conductor. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting at the University of British Columbia under the tutelage of Dr. Hyejung Jun and Dr. Graeme Langager. She holds a double degree in Music Education (B.Ed.) and Creative Arts and Culture (B.A.) with First Class Honours from the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK).

In Vancouver, Helen co-conducts the Vancouver Cantonese Choir and UBC’s Vox and Chamber Choir, and sings with the UBC University Singers and the Nabi Vocal Ensemble. As a conductor, she is dedicated to fostering and promoting cultural exchange and building community through choral music.

In Hong Kong, Helen had the opportunity to work extensively with choirs of various age groups. She served as a student conductor with the EdUHK Chorus and as a children’s music tutor at The Outreach Academy of EdUHK. She also worked for three years as a music teacher and choral conductor at Carmel Pak U Secondary School in Hong Kong, where she led the choirs in numerous competitions and performances. Under her direction, the senior choir of Carmel Pak U won Gold in the categories of Children’s Chorus and Music of Spirit and Faith at the 13th World Choir Games in 2024.

Active internationally, Helen has studied with esteemed choral conductors including Sanders Lau (Hong Kong), Prof. Thomas Caplin (Sweden), Soma Szabó (Hungary), Dr. Po Kwan Law (Hong Kong), Dr. Pawasut Jodi Piriyapongrat (Thailand), and Apollo Wong (Hong Kong). In 2026, she was selected to work with Dr. Jean-Sébastien Vallée at the Montreal Summer Choral Academy at McGill University and with Dr. William Weinert at the Choral Masterworks Eastman Summer Workshop.
