James Romeo serves as the acting Assistant Principal Flute/Piccolo with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for the 2019-2020 season. James has performed previously with the San Diego Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Canton Symphony Orchestra, and the San Diego Opera. He has taken part in summer festivals including the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, Centre d’Arts Orford, and the Anatolia College Summer Music Festival in Thessaloniki, Greece.
James received his Bachelor of Music in Flute studying under Thomas Robertello at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a Master of Music under Joshua Smith at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He has competed successfully in competitions including the San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition, San Diego Musical Merit Foundation, and the Tuesday Musical Association of Ohio. Busy as an educator as well as a performer, James has maintained a private teaching studio while taking part in educational outreach programs with arts organizations in San Diego including the Art of Èlan, Villa Musica, Luscious Noise, and the Melles Chamber Music Foundation. He has also served as director of the Villa Musica Flute Ensemble.
