Kat Stamnes

Kat Stamnes, born and raised in Vancouver, has completed and received their certificate for Foundations of Music Therapy, and is currently in their final year of their Bachelor of Music Therapy Degree at Capilano University. While voice was their original musical passion, they extended their musical studies to also include piano and guitar. Kat has been with the VSO School of Music as a Teachers Assistant since 2023, just recently completing the VSO Mini Music Makers training program and is excited to be expanding their role in the classroom teaching at the VSO School of Music.
Kat believes in the healing power of music to help with self-confidence and early childhood development. They are passionate about using therapeutic interventions to help children develop coping mechanisms, manage emotions, and foster overall well-being. Kat uses a strengths-based approach, combining various teaching theories with a strong understanding of each student’s needs and interests. Through their Music Therapy Degree education, they apply therapeutic techniques that encourage healing and personal growth. Kat is committed to creating a safe environment where imaginative, exploratory, and structured improvisation can thrive.
