Mark Luchkow
IN-PERSON LESSONS
Mark Luchkow began violin at the age of 3 at a Suzuki program in Edmonton. Later in his teens he added viola to his list of skills and it quickly became his favourite instrument to play. He studied with Andrew Bacon in Edmonton, and later with Gerald Stanick at the University of British Columbia where he earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Viola Performance. He has performed in several orchestras throughout BC, including as an extra in the VSO, and chamber music as a member of the Pro Nova String Quartet and the Twelfth Night Trio. At UBC’s Collegium Musicum he also met violinist John Sawyer, whose influence sparked a love of Baroque performance.
He loves teaching and has founded Suzuki programs for young children in Vancouver and North Vancouver. He has had students accepted to the National Youth Orchestra of Canada on both violin and viola, and several have gone on to study music at the University Level. His goal is always that the families of his students develop friendships, a love of musical culture, and mutually nurturing relationships with their teachers. Mark is an active member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and committed to ongoing
learning and development.
