Rishima Bahadoorsingh, MME (pending), MEd, BEd, BA, holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Diversity and Inclusion, a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She is deeply passionate about early childhood music education, believing in its transformative power to foster social and emotional growth. With over 18 years of experience teaching in public schools, Rishima is an experienced teacher who has developed a strong teaching philosophy centered on fostering emotional and social growth through music. She emphasizes building strong musical foundations through group music-making, using activities like drumming and singing to develop social resilience, improve self-esteem, and promote mental health. She also values cultural diversity, seeking to integrate global musical traditions into the classroom to promote respect and understanding for different cultures.
Rishima places great focus on research and continues to explore new avenues to integrate her knowledge as an educator, which reflects in her excellence in teaching. Having taught in Canada, Thailand, India, and Peru, she has worked with diverse populations, including marginalized communities, and has developed culturally appropriate music programs for young children. Her research in medical ethnomusicology, focusing on the healing properties of traditional Indian music, further enriches her teaching approach. Rishima’s dedication to learning and interdisciplinary studies, including music of the Silk Road and Africa, shapes her unique approach to education. As a performer and educator, Rishima continues to inspire and connect people through the power of world music, early childhood education, and her ongoing dedication to personal and professional growth.
