Shirley Lecker
Shirley Lecker is a Physiotherapist and Kinesiologist with a Graduate Diploma in Music Education and recently completed a Master in Education with a project on Musicians’ Health for Educators. She is also a Kindermusik Instructor, plays the cello and piano and sings in community choirs. With her extensive experience as a neurological clinician, educator and fitness instructor, she presents an innovative and functional approach to prevention and management of musicians’ injuries as well as strategies for utilizing performance anxiety. Shirley provides consultations for injured musicians, teaches “Body Tune Up Classes” and presents workshops for orchestras, choirs, educators, and various ensemble groups.
She has been a faculty member at the West Coast Amateur Musicians Society Summer Camp, and has presented sessions at the BC and Canadian Music Educators Conferences, as well as the University of BC, the University of Victoria, Douglas College, Prince George Conservatory, Pacific Northwest Music Festival, Registered Music Teachers’ Associations, and several other privately organized groups.
