Beethoven’s personality was as outsized as his talent. From his unhappy childhood through to deafness, chronic rages, family and romantic difficulties, Beethoven’s life can be seen as a heroic battle against adversity. Over the course of 2 one-hour presentations, you will be introduced to Beethoven the man and his musical development. We’ll examine the ways in which the events of Beethoven’s life influenced his compositional process and the character of the music that he was writing. He oversaw the transition of music from the Classical style to the Romantic style, while reshaping the symphony. Symphony # 3, 4 and 5 will be performed as part of the Beethoven Experience and we’ll take an in depth look at them, which will greatly enhance your concert experience.

In 2020, the musical world will celebrate the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven. The Vancouver Symphony commemorates this occasion with a two-week “Beethoven Experience” featuring performances of Beethoven’s compositions that will leave you with a new love of the greatest music master of all.
