Ignite your child’s love for music with First Keys, a fun and engaging group class designed for young beginners from age 3.5 to primary schoolers (Grade 1 to 4). This is taught in a fun group setting with keyboards and a blend of on- and off-piano activities. The course introduces piano fundamentals in a playful and supportive environment. Children build strong ears and musical foundations through rhythm games, ear training, movement, and singing.
Guided by expert instructors, students explore keyboard orientation, develop coordination between hands, eyes, ears, and fingers, and begin playing short music pieces with both hands. The program emphasizes joyful learning while building confidence, musical literacy, and the foundational skills needed for long-term success in piano studies.
Additional information:
First Keys follows a one-year progressive curriculum. For the best learning outcomes, students are encouraged to enroll in the same class for all three terms of the year.
To support regular practice, students are encouraged to have a piano or keyboard at home. Please contact our registration team to explore the benefits of studying at the VSO School of Music, including access to on-site practice rooms.
