Ignite your child’s love for music with First Strings, a fun and engaging group class designed for young beginners. Children learn the fundamentals of Violin or Cello technique in a playful and supportive environment. The course introduces posture, bow hold, open strings, and early music reading while making music together from the very first lesson.
Students build strong musical foundations through rhythm games, movement, and ensemble playing. Guided by expert instructors, students will explore sound production, develop coordination between hands, eyes, and ears, and begin playing short pieces using open strings and simple finger patterns. The program emphasizes joyful learning while building confidence, musical literacy, and the skills needed for long-term success in string instrument studies.
First Strings follows a progressive curriculum designed to nurture independence and creativity. For the best learning outcomes, students are encouraged to practice at home and to avoid extended absences. An adult must attend each class with their child to support at-home practice.
Participants will need:
- A properly sized violin or cello (typically 1/10, 1/8, or 1/4 depending on arm length)
- Rosin (if not included with the violin/cello)
- A binder/duotang for music and homework sheets
