Discover the joy of playing the guzheng, one of China’s most beautiful and iconic traditional instruments. Whether you are completely new to music or simply curious about Chinese culture, this beginner-friendly group class offers an exciting and rewarding introduction to the world of guzheng. No prior musical experience is required.
From the very first class, students will learn essential guzheng techniques, including proper posture, hand positioning, basic finger skills, and rhythm development. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, students will quickly begin playing recognizable melodies while learning to read jianpu (numbered musical notation). Group activities and ensemble playing make learning both engaging and enjoyable, allowing students to build skills while making music together.
More than just an instrumental class, this course provides an opportunity to connect with the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Chinese music. Students will explore a variety of beloved traditional melodies and discover the stories and history behind the pieces they perform.
