The VSOSoM Big Band is an auditioned ensemble for jazz student musicians aged 14–21 years. The Big Band explores jazz music in its many forms. Repertoire will be selected from early works to contemporary jazz-rock fusion and even elements of free jazz. Students will perform repertoire by a wide variety of composers, including works composed and specially arranged by the Director. The ensemble enjoys a diverse range of performance opportunities, guest coaching and masterclasses with internationally-recognized Jazz musicians.
To apply to participate, click “Apply Now” and fill in the short online form. As part of the form, you will be asked to submit a short video that represents your playing. You will be contacted after the deadline to confirm your placement. Once accepted, ensemble members will be required to pay 35% of the fee in order to secure their place.
