This is an in-person music program, held at the VSO School
Learn the basics of violin playing the right way, and see if this could be the start of a treasured hobby, or even more! These small groups of up to four young beginners with a parent or caregiver, led by VSO violinist Cassandra Bequary, give participants a solid foundation in the instrument, while having fun and connecting with others.
Please note these classes involve parent participation.
Level 1: Mondays, 2:30-3:15pm
Suitable for complete beginners, with no previous music knowledge. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the instrument including posture, bow and instrument hold, and open strings.
Prerequisites: None
Level 2: Mondays, 3:30-4:15pm
Continuing participants will develop their relationship with the violin, learning different playing styles and melodies.
Prerequisites: Level 1 class or equivalent experience
Level 3: Mondays, 4:30-5:15pm
Continuing participants will make further progress, refining technique and moving on to more complex repertoire.
Prerequisites: Level 2 class or equivalent experience
Participants will need:
- A properly sized violin, likely 1/10; 1/8 or 1/4 depending on arm length
- A shoulder rest, if not included with violin
