Registration for Theory FUNdamentals will open on Monday June 17 at 12pm
These are in-person music classes, held at the VSO School
Music theory can be fun!
This highly interactive and engaging class is designed to support young musicians in finding their way around the music staff. We take a “hands-on” approach to learning note names, intervals, chords, scales, key signatures, rhythm, and more! Concepts are taught holistically for deep understanding – we make minimal use of paper and pencil.
Boost your child’s confidence in their ability to read music, and watch their instrumental progress blossom, through this fun and social class.
Please note: this class is for full-year registration only. Once you have enrolled and paid for the Fall term, you will automatically also be enrolled in the Winter (Jan-Mar 2025) and Spring (Apr-Jun 2025) terms, with payments for those terms being processed on Dec 15, 2024 and Mar 15, 2025.
By the end of the school year, participants will know:
- how to form a mental picture of the staff-visual recognition skills
- how scales and chords are structured
- to recognize intervals and chord progressions through ear training
- the circle of 5ths, and key signatures up to 5 sharps and 5 flats-meter, and how to count rhythm (ask your teacher if this is important!)
- to read, create and improvise rhythms along with rhythmic dictation
- how all those clefs work (they’re not hard!)
