This is an online class, taught using Zoom
This course will focus on Handel’s Recorder Sonata in F Major, HWV 369 (Op.1, No.11) and address all aspects of approaching a Baroque sonata including style, articulation, trills, ornamentation, form, keys, harmony and strategies for practice. This Sonata is in a comfortable key for recorder and falls nicely under the fingers. The final classes will be in master class format for those interested in performing part of the sonata for all participants.
While the sonata is written for alto recorder (in F), there will be parts available in C for recorder players who prefer to play soprano or tenor. Another option is to play an alto recorder reading the C part which would be the same fingerings as playing the sonata on an alto, therefore sounding the same as altos reading the original parts.
Recommended playing level: Intermediate and above
