Applications for the 2026-27 Performance Prep Program are now closed. Applications for 2027-28 will open in March 2027.
The Performance Prep Program is a prestigious 10-month work-study residency (September–June) for students who show a high level of musical talent and a desire to progress to higher education in music performance. The program is aimed at developing the careers of young musicians and expanding their professional skills, particularly for those who are in the early stages of their careers or about to embark on an undergraduate degree. Three students will be accepted into the program each year.
Participants receive weekly private lessons, ensemble training, and career mentorship from VSO School of Music faculty. Students also gain real-world skills through a 6-week practicum placement in areas such as event planning, marketing, or arts administration.
In return, students contribute meaningfully to the VSO School of Music community by serving as Teaching Assistants and engaging in community performances.
Participants benefit from a $8,000 scholarship, full access to the School’s facilities, free VSO concert tickets, and exclusive networking events.
Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the program start date and legally eligible to work in Canada through July 2027.
