Build a complete musical toolkit in this dynamic, multi-faceted course. While rooted in the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) standards, this class goes beyond simple scales to develop comprehensive musicianship. Through a combination of “piano drills,” sight-playing challenges, and ear training, students gain the independence needed to learn music faster and play with greater physical ease.
Core Learning Pillars:
- The Technical “Gym”: Targeted piano drills to improve finger independence, crossover fluidity, and keyboard geography through scales, chords, and arpeggios.
- Sight-Playing & Quick Study: Develop the ability to read and perform new music on the fly. Students practice “quick study” techniques to identify patterns and rhythms instantly, a vital skill for collaborative playing.
- Ear Training & Sightsinging: Bridge the gap between hearing and playing. Classes include exercises in interval recognition and sightsinging to help students “hear” the music on the page before they touch the keys.
- Efficient Practice Habits: Learn how to break down difficult passages using technical drills, turning “stuck” moments into opportunities for growth.
Who is this for?
This course is ideal for any student, whether pursuing RCM exams or not, who wants to stop struggling with “the notes” and start focusing on the music. By mastering these foundational drills, students find that their repertoire becomes easier to learn and more enjoyable to perform.
These are full year classes, running from September 2026 to June 2027.
