Presented by Music Arts Collective
This is a virtual event, taught using Zoom
Join industry professionals Jodi Proznick and Amanda Tosoff in this welcoming online environment to explore jazz for a day with special guest Heather Bambrick: the rhythms, improvisation, composition and the women who’ve brought magnificence to this popular genre of music.
We will celebrate and encourage girls, women, trans women and non-binary music lovers in a supportive space with virtual workshops and conversations designed for students, teachers and beginner/intermediate level musicians aged 13 to 103. If you have 2+ years’ experience on vocals or an instrument—or just a curiosity about the nuts and bolts of jazz music—then this event is for you! You will take away at the end of the day:
- An understanding of how a jazz lead sheet works
- Methodical and fun ways to practice improvisation
- Basics on how to write a jazz composition
- A short survey of important women in jazz such as Mary Lou Williams, Billie Holiday, Renee Rosnes and Maria Schneider
- A new community of musical collaborators
- Confidence and empowerment to do the creative work you have always wanted
- Professional tips for teachers to teach creative music play in your classrooms and ideas to implement in your jazz bands
- Access at MusicArtsCollective.com to:
– Videos of the sessions and handouts for 30 days after the event
– Music Arts Collective’s freebie of the month
– Private Facebook group to share your new song or improv
