This is an online music course, taught via Zoom
In this unique collaborative workshop with Cinematheque, participants will work alongside filmmakers from the parallel Film Making Workshop for Youth at the Cinematheque to create a custom score, complementing an original short film. This is an online course with the option to join VSO-Cinematheque meetups in person. Over the course of two months, students will collaborate with their cohort under the guidance of a professional composition teacher from the VSO School of Music, while film students bring the visual component to life. The final project will be screened at a special red-carpet event at The Cinematheque on Saturday, April 26.
If students are beginners to digital audio, they’ll need to take the pre-requisite Music Production course (January 15–February 5) to learn the fundamentals of DAW (Digital Audio Workstation, e.g. Ableton) before joining this workshop. The workshop will cover essential topics like leitmotifs, spotting, click tracks, motion in scoring, and more, with dynamic, hands-on learning, demonstrations, and Q&A sessions.
