This is an online music course, taught using Zoom
Whether you are a high school student preparing to submit your audition tapes to post secondary music programs, or an adult who finds joy in exploring musical ideas at home after work, Digital Skills is class built for you. This online class will present all of the required knowledge you will need in order to compose, record, mix, digitally export (in both audio and video format), and upload your music for your unique musical pursuits. The class will conclude with a final project, where students will compose, record, mix, and export their very own audio projects (with optional video component) and share with the entire class.
In this course, you will learn the following concepts:
- Audio signal flow in a recording setting (how audio is sent and received)
- Using a Digital Audio Workstation
- Composing with MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Instrument)
- Applying common audio processing units (EQ, Compression, Reverb, Delay)
- Fundamentals of Subtractive Synthesis
- Mixing your tracks
- Exporting your audio
- Syncing your audio to video
What You Will Need:
- Access to a computer
- Headphones
- Download Waveform 12 (FREE DAW for Windows and Mac)
- Download Davinci Resolve (FREE Video Editor for Windows and Mac)
- Access to a Phone, Tablet, or Computer Camera
Optional: Midi keyboard (Your computer keyboard can function as a midi keyboard if you don’t have one).
In addition to working as a professional live musician, Noah Franche-Nolan is equally active in the field of recording and scoring, having most recently composed the score to the NYC-made documentary “Rite of Passage” [DOCNYC Festival], and the music for Vancouver-based playwright Shelby Saitterthwaite’s play Light Rapid Transit. He is currently composing and recording the score for a new feature length NYC-made Documentary, entitled Painting of Solidarity.
